About Our Name

City Reformed Presbyterian Church…Our name tells about who we are...

"City"

We always desire to be a warm family for all kinds of people who live in the city, including older singles, new people in town, single parents, young children, and people who have never attended church before. We will not assume that everyone fits a mold of traditional Christian upbringing. We are intentionally a church in Pittsburgh. We are based in Oakland and our church life is woven into the university community.

"Reformed"

The word "Reformed" in our name means that we belong to the group of churches that hold to the main teachings of the Reformation. These include a central role for the Bible, God-centered worship, and clear preaching of the Gospel.

"Presbyterian"

We believe in connectedness with other churches, and therefore we are a member of the national Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). We aren't reinventing the wheel or starting an elitist sect.

"Church"

We want to be a church where people can ask questions and get straight answers. We don't believe Christianity was meant to be mysterious and obscure or just vague niceness. We will take the time to make opportunities for questions at all occasions.
